This chapter contains information on solving some problems that you may experience while using your computer.

Please spend some time to read this information, this may help you in rectifying your computer problems.

The following are the most encountered problems in a computer.

  • §  The machine is not getting power on.
  • §  The machine is getting powered on but no display.
  • §  Error reading/writing floppy disk.
  • §  HDD Failure error during bootup.
  • §  FDS Failure error during bootup.
  • §  No ROM basic found error during bootup.
  • §  Machine not booting from hard disk.
  • §  Hard disk read/write error.
  • §  Keyboard is not working.

Computer 

Machine is not getting power on

Ensure this by checking the power LED in front of your machine and by seeing the SMPS fan (It should rotate at full speed) located at the back of the computer. If the LED is not glowing follow the steps given below to resolve this problem.

 Check whether your computer power switch is ON position.

   Check whether your computer is connected to the power outlet and the power outlet is switched on.

   Check for any loose contact between the power connector and the outlets. The power connection should be very firm and there should not be any loose contact.

  ☑ Check whether the output voltage from Stabiliser/UPS/CVT is OK.

Display

The machine is getting powered on but no display

  • Ø  Check the monitor is switched on and the power indicator LED of the monitor is glowing.
  • Ø  Check for monitor power connection.
  • Ø  Adjust the contrast/brightness knob to maximum.
Ø Check whether the monitor is connected to the CPU properly.



Flexible Disk Drive

Error reading/ writing Floppy 💾 Disk 

  •       Check whether you have inserted the floppy disk properly and the lever is closed properly.
  •       Check with a different floppy.
  •    If you have cleaning diskette, clean the floppy drive head.
  •       If you are using fresh diskette in the floppy drive, format it before using.
  •       Ensure that the floppy is not write protected when you try to write to disk.
  •      Run scandisk On DOS 6.22 or windows 95/98) to resolve some soft errors on the floppy disk.
  •       If you are familiar with the BIOS setting of the machine, go to BIOS setting by pressing <del> key while booting up and check the floppy-drive A and B setting.
